India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023: Weather Update for Key Match Day in Kandy

The highly anticipated clash of the Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled for Saturday (September 2), featuring rivals Pakistan and Team India at the Pallekelle International Stadium in Kandy. This year's Asia Cup has adopted a 'hybrid model,' with Team India competing in Sri Lanka instead of Pakistan, the official hosts.

The tournament's opening match is set for Wednesday, featuring hosts Pakistan against Nepal in Multan. However, followers from both India and Pakistan are keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecast, as rain might disrupt the second Group A match.

The Meteorological Department indicates a 60% chance of rain during the India vs Pakistan encounter in Kandy, scheduled to commence at 3 pm IST. Humidity levels are predicted to reach around 98%, and the temperature is forecasted to be approximately 24 degrees Celsius.

Preceding India's game against Pakistan, Bangladesh will challenge defending champions Sri Lanka at the same venue on Thursday (March 31). The weather prognosis for that match suggests a 44% possibility of rain, alongside 88% humidity and 99% cloud cover in the afternoon.

Interestingly, India's previous ODI clash against Pakistan dates back to 2019 during the ICC Cricket World Cup at Manchester's Old Trafford ground. Incidentally, that match was also affected by rain, ultimately leading to India's 89-run victory via the DLS method.

In the aforementioned match, India batted first and posted 336 for 5, with opener Rohit Sharma's remarkable 140 and skipper Virat Kohli contributing 77 off 65 balls. In response, Pakistan managed 212 for 6 in 40 overs before rain intervened, leading to a revised target of 302 runs in 40 overs for Sarfaraz Ahmed's team.

During the Asia Cup 2018, India encountered Pakistan twice, securing triumphs by 8 wickets and 9 wickets respectively, eventually capturing the championship under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
